Action Alert: Support the Protecting Our Immigrant Communities Campaign
We can’t stop Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) removals, but Massachusetts can take a stand for due process and the rule of law. Please contact your state representative and state senator THIS WEEK via email or phone using the suggested script below and ask them to urgently support the passage of the following bills. You can read summaries of the bills on our website: League-Supported/Opposed Legislation 2025-2026 – League of Women Voters of Massachusetts. Find your legislators here.
Suggested script:
“Dear Rep./Sen. ________,
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) removals are devastating our communities. To celebrate the 250th anniversary of the revolution that birthed our nation, the League of Women Voters affirms that the Massachusetts Constitution guarantees equal protection under all laws to all people, regardless of nationality, citizenship, or immigration status. When due process is denied to any group, it weakens the rule of law for all of us.
As a member of the League, I encourage you to sign on as a co-sponsor and support passage of the following bills to protect and ensure immigrants’ rights:
H2580/S1681, An Act to protect the civil rights and safety of all Massachusetts residents (Safe Communities Act)
H1588/S1122 An Act relative to immigration detention and collaboration agreements (Dignity not Deportations)
H1954/S1127, An Act ensuring access to equitable representation in immigration proceedings (Immigrant Legal Defense Fund)
The League of Women Voters supports due process for all persons, including the right to a fair hearing, the right to counsel, the right of appeal, and the right to humane treatment, and that no person or group should suffer legal discrimination. We thank you for taking this important step forward to protect our communities.”
Feel free to personalize your emails by adding why securing human rights for all residents is important to you. Remember to include your name and complete street address.
