Become a Legislative Envoy
Following a brief August recess, the Legislature will return to business after Labor Day. Legislative Envoys establish a relationship with their state representative and state senator as LWVMA works to enact human rights legislation on Beacon Hill. Can you recommend a volunteer from your local League to serve as a Legislative Envoy?
Primarily, envoys respond automatically to Action Alerts in the name of their local League. Envoys may also receive specific requests from legislative specialists related to advancing bills through the process towards enactment.
The bulk of the volunteer work will occur between now and early December. The best estimate of workload hovers around five hours per month. Last session, there were approximately two Action Alerts per month from October through June.
We had 25 volunteers during the 2023-24 session, and the goal is to have one envoy from each of our 44 local Leagues. To date, we have envoys signed up from LWV Cape Cod Area, LWV Concord Carlisle, and LWV Wellesley.
If you are interested in volunteering, please check with your local League board to see if anyone else has volunteered and to express your interest. Then complete THIS FORM within the next week. We will schedule a group meeting when we have a number of volunteers.
