Council 2024: The Future of the League: Building the Leadership Pipeline Recap

The League of Women Voters of Massachusetts conducted its 2024 Council on June 22 via Zoom. Over 100 members attended the meeting.

One of the key events of Council was the election of Officers, Board, and Nominating Committee members. We would like to report on the election and introduce the slate of Officers and Board members and Nominating Committee member elected at Council.

Officers of LWVMA:

  • Courtney Rau Rogers, from LWV Norwood, for the office of Co-President for a two-year term
  • Karen Price, from LWV Needham, for the office of 2nd Vice President, for a two-year term
  • Marcia Johnson, from LWV Newton, for the office of Secretary, for a one-year term
  • Tanya Roy, from LWV Wellesley, for the office of Treasurer, for a two-year term

Directors for a Two-Year Term:

  • Caroline McKeon from LWV Boston
  • Melinda Murphy from LWV Northampton Area
  • Celia Nolan from LWV Hingham
  • Marlene O’Brien from LWV Wellesley
  • Christy Torres from LWV Northampton Area
  • Jessica Vocaturo, a Member-at-Large

Director for a One-Year Term:

  • Josiah Morrow, a Member-at-Large

For the Nominating Committee:

  • Roz McKeon, a Member-at-Large

We thank the Board members who completed their terms: Elizabeth Foster-Nolan (Co-President), Himaja Nagireddy (Director), Judith Reilly (Director), Sharon Rodriguez (Director), and Eva Valentine (Director). Their years of dedication and leadership have strengthened LWVMA. We appreciate their service.

Direction was provided to the new Board via a survey. If you would like to provide direction (a specific program item, project, or about the management and goals of LWVMA), please click here. The newly elected Board will review this direction and report back to the membership on the actions taken.

Meet Our Speaker

Samantha Isabel Calero is the Vice President of People and Culture at YW Boston. Samantha began her career in community-based public health approaches to violence prevention and intervention and grew into a strategy, change management and facilitation expert to advance equity, diversity, inclusion, accessibility, and belonging. She brings more than 17 years of leadership experience to her role at YW Boston.
