Former Sen. Feingold Urges Legislature to Rescind Calls for Convention

LWVMA and Common Cause hosted a briefing for legislators on the need to pass a resolution to rescind outdated calls for an Article V Constitutional Convention. Former U.S. Senator Russell Feingold (of McCain-Feingold campaign finance reform) spoke to the Zoom webinar attended by legislators and/or staff on the need to take this action to block efforts to dramatically alter the US Constitution through an untested Convention of States by seeking to get state legislatures to send resolutions to Congress. Past calls for convention are being counted in the effort to reach the goal of ⅔ of the states (34) seeking a convention.  Massachusetts has still active resolutions to ban abortion (1977), abolish the income tax (1964), repeal prohibition (1931) and more. We are seeking a new resolution to rescind them all. Here is our background memo.
