How the DEI Committee and Peer Group Complement Each Other
How the DEI Committee and Peer Group Complement Each Other As the League strengthens its commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), it’s essential to recognize the unique roles of the DEI Committee and the DEI Peer Group. While both groups are dedicated to advancing inclusivity and equity, they serve distinct yet complementary functions. The DEI Committee focuses on shaping strategy, developing initiatives, and integrating DEI principles into the League’s work, while the DEI Peer Group provides a collaborative space for members to share experiences, seek guidance, and support one another in implementing DEI practices. Together, these groups enhance the League’s overall DEI efforts by combining structured planning with open dialogue and shared learning. The DEI Peer Group is a statewide network of League members who come together to learn from one another and explore how local leagues can enhance their DEI efforts. Coordinated by Melinda Murphy and Lucy Costa, this group meets quarterly online to exchange ideas, share experiences, and discuss relevant DEI topics. It is an open forum where members support each other in navigating DEI challenges and identifying best practices. On the other hand, the DEI Committee is action-oriented and program-driven. This group provides foundational guidance, advocacy, and tangible resources for Local Leagues. Through hosting events, facilitating workshops, and creating platforms for meaningful dialogue, the DEI Committee ensures that DEI initiatives translate into impactful change. Our focus is to be proactive in addressing challenges and empowering League members to lead inclusively in an evolving world. While these two groups have different structures and objectives, they are now working closely to ensure that discussions within the DEI Peer Group inform and inspire actionable initiatives within the DEI Committee. By bridging these efforts, we aim to create a stronger, more inclusive League that not only engages in important conversations but also drives meaningful progress in our communities. If you have any questions about how to get involved with either group, please reach out—we welcome your participation.
