Medicare for All: April 30 at 7pm

Rising health care costs and diminishing access to primary care physicians dominate the daily news. Legislative specialist Ellen Church takes a deep dive into the Medicare for All legislation and what we can do to move the bill forward. Watch the recording here. 

Gun Violence Prevention: May 8 at 7pm

Gun violence prevention legislative specialist Caroline Ellis facilitated a discussion of supported legislation this session including An Act to promote safe firearm storage education and increase the well-being of students and An Act relative to firearm industry accountability and gun violence victims’ access to justice. Fairness for Farmworkers/Immigration: May 13 @ 12 noon

Did you know that about 14,000 farmworkers across 2,300 farms keep MA residents fed? And yet, these essential workers do not have the wage and working condition protections that other workers do. On May 13 LWVMA hosted Claudia Quintero and Maya McCann of the Central West Justice Center, co-leaders of the Fairness for Farmworkers Coalition. Claudia and Maya discussed the bills before the legislature that seek to achieve equity for this essential workforce. Watch the recording here. View the presentation slides here. 

Reproductive Rights/Women’s Issues: May 15 @12 noon 

During a moment in history when human rights are under attack at the federal level, the League can effectively advocate for the advancement of  women’s rights at the state level. We offer an overview of past and proposed state legislation that focuses on protections for women in the areas of employment and reproductive health care. Representative Lindsay Sabadosa, lead sponsor for two of our featured healthcare bills, shared her perspective on the importance of these legislative efforts. Watch the recording here.
