Can Open Town Meeting be Remote and Secure?
LWVMA is supporting a bill, H.2274, that would allow, but not require, towns that use the open town meeting format to add a remote participation option to their town meetings. Wayland has been developing a way to do that securely and presented their concept at a League webinar. Take a look here. If your town holds open town meetings and you think a remote option is a good idea, please contact your state legislators and ask them to support H.2274. (Note this bill does not apply to towns that hold representative town meetings, where districts elect representatives to the town meeting. It applies to an open town meeting where all voters in a town can attend.) See our testimony on the bill here.
