Seven local Leagues received Scharfman Grants in April 2023:
Cape Cod: LWV Cape Cod was awarded a grant for an educational housing forum: “Housing Dilemma: Resources for Making Progress.” Panelists include the CEO of the Chamber of Commerce, a State Senator, two State Reps, the Executive Director of the Cape Cod Commission, a Town Planner, and several other experts.
Central Berkshire: LWV Central Berkshire was awarded a grant for a candidate forum in the town of Stockbridge. The grant will fund flyers to advertise the event.
Franklin County: LWV Franklin County was awarded a grant for to help fund their Civics Trivia Night. Civics Trivia Night is a fun exercise in community-building, with a competitive edge and a focus on civics topics. The LWVFC Voter Services Committee researches and creates the quiz, which consists of 5 rounds of 6 questions, along with a quirky table game for engagement between rounds.
Martha’s Vineyard: LWV Martha’s Vineyard was awarded a grant to hold candidate forums in each Martha’s Vineyard town with a contested race in the spring of 2023. LWV-MA guidelines are followed so the forums are fair and objective. Forums are held at the library in each town. The forums are open to the public and are free to attend. The forums will be recorded and shown on MVTV in Spring 2023.
Plymouth Area: LWV Plymouth Area was awarded a grant to educate the public about the major changes proposed by a new Charter Commission.
Wellesley: LWV Wellesley was awarded a grant for a town election postcard mailing to all Wellesley households in February 2023.
Westford: LWV Westford was awarded a grant to help cover part of the cost of purchasing a new banner that will be displayed in the center of Westford to advertise each special Town Meeting.
