Although people with disabilities are equally as interested in voting as their nondisabled peers, they are less likely to vote and more likely to encounter barriers to voting. This webinar will give participants the tools to engage the disability community in voting and civic participation. We will discuss the basic rights of voters with disabilities; types of accommodations available to voters with a range of disabilities; special considerations for registering voters in long-term care facilities (including nursing homes), and some best practices for making events accessible to all community members.
The League of Women Voters of Massachusetts is proud to have Brianna Zimmerman of the Disability Law Center speak on this topic! Brianna (she/her) is the Voting Rights Advocate at the Disability Law Center (DLC). DLC is a statewide nonprofit legal services organization and the Protection and Advocacy (P & A) agency for Massachusetts. Under the Protection and Advocacy for Voting Access (PAVA) program, Brianna conducts voter registration drives, voting rights trainings, and ensures that voting is accessible to disabilities. She also helps coordinate the REV UP MA coalition, a group of organizations and self-advocates that are passionate about civic engagement and voting access.
