Candidate and Ballot Question Forums and Debates 2018

1st Franklin District (5/23)
The Franklin County League hosted a climate change debate for the candidates for the 1st Franklin District seat in the Massachusetts House of Representatives. Northampton League member Fran Volkmann moderated.

3rd Congressional District (7/23)
The Acton Area and Concord-Carlisle Leagues hosted a forum for the candidates for the 3rd Congressional District seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. Needham League Voter Service Chair Debbie Winnick moderated.

Middlesex County District Attorney and Governor’s Council (7/24)
The Arlington, Lexington, and Winchester Leagues co-hosted a debate for the candidates for Middlesex County District Attorney and for the Governor’s Council District 3 seat. Arlington League Vice President Patti Muldoon moderated the District Attorney debate.

1st Franklin District (8/7)
The Franklin County League co-hosted a debate for the candidates for the 1st Franklin District seat in the Massachusetts House of Representatives. Northampton League member Becky Shannon moderated.

4th Congressional District (8/10)
The Brookline, Needham, Newton, and Wellesley Leagues co-hosted a debate for the candidates for the 4th Congressional District seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. Norwood League President Courtney Rau Rogers moderated.

Norfolk, Bristol, and Middlesex District and 13th Norfolk District (8/13)
The Needham, Wayland, and Wellesley Leagues co-hosted a forum for the candidates for the Norfolk, Bristol, and Middlesex District seat in the Massachusetts State Senate and the 13th Norfolk District seat in the Massachusetts House of Representatives. Newton League President Sue Flicop moderated.

5th Middlesex District and 5th Congressional District (8/20)
The Winchester League hosted a forum for the candidates for the 5th Middlesex District seat in the Massachusetts State Senate and the 5th Congressional District seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.

6th Middlesex District (8/20)
The Framingham League co-hosted a forum for the candidates for the 6th Middlesex District in the Massachusetts House of Representatives.

3rd Congressional District (8/27)
The Acton Area, Chelmsford, Concord-Carlisle, Greater Lowell, and Westford Leagues co-hosted a forum for the candidates for the 3rd Congressional District seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. Lexington League President Margaret Coppe moderated.

Hampden District (8/29)
The Springfield Unit co-hosted a debate for the candidates for the Hampden District seat in the Massachusetts State Senate. LWVMA 2nd Vice President Lee Bona moderated.

1st Congressional District (8/30)
The Franklin County, and Williamstown Leagues and the Springfield and Central Berkshire Units co-hosted a forum for the candidates for the 1st Congressional District seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Ballot Questions 2 and 3
The Newton League held a discussion on Ballot Question 2 (Advisory Commission for Amendments to the U.S. Constitution Regarding Corporate Personhood and Political Spending Initiative) and Ballot Question 3 (Gender Identity Anti-Discrimination Veto Referendum) featuring Newton League Vice President Lisa Mirabile and League member and ACLU of Massachusetts Board Member Holly Gunner.

11th Norfolk District and Ballot Questions (10/10)
The Westwood, Walpole, and Dedham League hosted a forum for the candidates for the 11th Norfolk District seat in the Massachusetts House of Representatives. Candidates also addressed questions about the three ballot questions.

Cape and Islands District and 9th Congressional District (10/13)
The League moderated a forum for the candidates for the Cape and Islands District seat in the Massachusetts State Senate and the 9th Congressional District seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Ballot Questions (10/15)
The Springfield Unit of the Northampton League presented two ballot question forums. The voter service forum on Ballot Question 1 (Nurse-Patient Assignment Limits) featured a speaker from the Massachusetts Nurses Association on the “yes” side and a speaker from the Protect Patient Safety Coalition on the “no” side. The advocacy forum featured speakers advocating for a yes vote on Ballot Question 2 (Advisory Commission for Amendments to the U.S. Constitution Regarding Corporate Personhood and Political Spending Initiative) and Ballot Question 3 (Gender Identity Anti-Discrimination Veto Referendum). Springfield Unit Convener Linda O’Connell moderated.

2nd Congressional District (10/15)
The Worcester League, the state League, the Worcester Telegram & Gazette, the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce, the Massachusetts Women of Color Coalition, and Mechanics Hall co-hosted a debate for the candidates for the 2nd Congressional District seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.

2nd Essex, 4th Essex, 13th Essex, and 18th Essex Districts (10/17)
The Topsfield/Boxford/Middleton League hosted a forum for the candidates for the 2nd Essex, 4th Essex, 13th Essex, and 19th Essex District seats in the Massachusetts House of Representatives. The forum took place at Masconomet Regional High School in Boxford at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 17.

3rd Congressional District (10/17)
The Greater Haverhill League hosted a forum for the candidates for the 3rd Congressional District seat in the U.S. House of Representatives at Harbor Place in Haverhill at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 17.

Plymouth and Norfolk District (10/17)
The Hingham League hosted a forum for the candidates for the Plymouth and Norfolk District seat in the Massachusetts State Senate at Hingham Town Hall at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 17.  Needham League President Karen Price moderated.

Candidates’ Forum (10/17)
The Falmouth League hosted a candidates’ forum at Falmouth High School at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 17.

Ballot Questions (10/17)
The Grafton/Shrewsbury Area League hosted a ballot question forum at the Shrewsbury Public Library at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 17.

Ballot Question 1 (10/18)
The Newton League hosted a topic meeting on Ballot Question 1 (Nurse-Patient Assignment Limits) and two municipal ballot questions regarding marijuana at the Durant-Kenrick House at 8 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 18.

14th Middlesex District (10/18)
The Concord-Carlisle and Acton Area Leagues co-sponsored a debate for the candidates for the 14th Middlesex District seat in the Massachusetts House of Representatives on Thursday, Oct. 18 at 7:00 p.m. Arlington League Vice President Patti Muldoon moderated.

Middlesex and Worcester District (10/18)
The Concord-Carlisle and Acton Area Leagues co-sponsored a debate for the candidates for the Middlesex and Worcester District seat in the Massachusetts Senate on Thursday, Oct. 18. at 7:30 p.m. Arlington League Vice President Patti Muldoon moderated.

37th Middlesex District (10/18)
The Concord-Carlisle and Acton Area Leagues co-sponsored a forum for the candidate for the 37th Middlesex District seat in the Massachusetts House of Representatives on Thursday, Oct. 18 at 8:15 p.m. Arlington League Vice President Patti Muldoon moderated.

The Cape Cod Area League hosted a forum on Ballot Question 1 (Nurse-Patient Assignment Limits) at the Cape Cod Community Media Center at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20.

Ballot Question 1 (10/21)
The Greater Lowell League hosted a forum on Ballot Question (Nurse-Patient Assignment Limits) at the Dracut American Legion Post 315 at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 21.

31st Middlesex Representative, 2nd and 5th Middlesex Senate, and 6th Governor’s Council Districts (10/21)
The Winchester League hosted a forum for the candidates for the 31st Middlesex District seat in the Massachusetts House of Representatives, the 2nd and 5th Middlesex District seats in the Massachusetts Senate, and the 6th District seat in the Governor’s Council. The forum was held at the Jenks Center in Winchester at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 21.

Worcester District Attorney (10/22)
The Worcester League, the ACLU, WSU, and the Worcester NAACP co-hosted a debate for the candidates for Worcester District Attorney in the Worcester State University Ghosh Science and Tech Auditorium at 6 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 22.

Ballot Questions 1 and 3 (10/22)
The Norwood League hosted a forum on Ballot Question 1 (Nurse-Patient Assignment Limits) and Ballot Question 3 (Gender Identity Anti-Discrimination Veto Referendum) at Norwood High School at 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 22.

Ballot Questions 2 and 3 (10/24)
The Worcester League co-hosted a forum on Ballot Question 2 (Advisory Commission for Amendments to the U.S. Constitution Regarding Corporate Personhood and Political Spending Initiative) and Ballot Question 3 (Gender Identity Anti-Discrimination Veto Referendum), at the Lee Room of the First Baptist Church at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 24.

The Needham League hosted a ballot question forum at the Broadmeadow School at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 25.

Ballot Questions (10/28)
The Framingham League co-hosted a ballot question forum with the Metrowest Daily News at the Framingham Public Library at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 28.  Candidates for State Representative in the 6th Middlesex District of Massachusetts also answered questions.

Ballot Question 1 (11/2)
The Lexington League is hosting a forum on Ballot Question 1 (Nurse-Patient Assignment Limits) at Cary Memorial Library at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 2.
