Questions & Answers

Question: What do you consider to be the chief role of the Auditor—to detect fraud, to assess effectiveness, or something else?

The role of the State Auditor in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is to provide an assessment — in the form of an audit — into how certain state agencies use their appropriated budget. Each of these agencies should be audited regularly, fairly and professionally. The job of the State Auditor is important because taxpayer dollars are generated through the hard work of the people of this Commonwealth to sustain the government and we need to know that these funds are being spent efficiently and not wasted.

I am running for State Auditor because I have the educational background and professional experience to ensure that the agencies under my purview are audited in a timely and thorough manner. I have a Bachelors of Science in Accounting from Providence College and I have several years of professional Auditing and corporate management experience.  I am well qualified for this important position. It should be noted that the current State Auditor is not equipped with the appropriate education or professional experience for this job. Recent high-profile scandals at various state agencies show why we need to bring professionalism to the office of State Auditor.
