What? A talk by experts followed by a self-driving tour of mining and solar sites
- Dozens of destructive sand mining operations in Carver, Wareham, Plymouth, Plympton, Middleborough and other towns
- Multiple cranberry growers such as AD Makepeace, Johnson Cranberry and Franklin Marsh claim sand mining is an agricultural project
- Construction companies like SLT Construction in Carver and Spencer Realty in Plymouth and developer Pine Hills claim sand mining is just normal “site preparation”
- State “SMART” solar program directing taxpayer and ratepayer subsidies to shell corporations, cranberry companies and multinational corporations to sand mine, clear forests and put industrial solar in the wrong places
- Cranberry bogs being covered with industrial solar projects, toxic batteries and transformers and some using arsenic treated wood poles to mount solar
The results:
- Severe threats to our sole source drinking water aquifer
- Loss of unique rural and agricultural community character
- Elimination of globally rare forests, plants and animals due to complicity of Massachusetts Department of Fish & Game issuing permits to kill rare species to companies like AD Makepeace
- More risk of flooding, salt water intrusion to the groundwater
- Undermining efforts to fight climate change
