Youth Juvenile Justice Lobby Day

Join us for Youth Justice Day of Action: From Vision to Reality on Wednesday, June 7, at 2 PM (doors open 1:45pm) at the State House in Room 428. This lobby day will focus on four important bills. Two of these bills are LWVMA priorities this legislative session: Raise the Age and Diversion. In the last legislative session, we also supported Expungement and Limit Mandatory Minimums. We are honored to have Senator Brendan Crighton, Chair of the Senate Committee on Juvenile and Emerging Adult Justice, and Representative Frank Moran, Second Assistant Majority Leader sharing their perspectives on youth justice priorities. This event will feature a panel of speakers who will share their perspective on why these four key issues are so important to make our Commonwealth more fair and equitable for youth:

  • Raise the Age to keep 18-to 20-year-olds out of the adult criminal justice system (H.3420/S.825)
  • Expand diversion opportunities to community-based alternatives to juvenile court processing (H.1495/S.940)
  • Exclude juvenile cases from triggering extreme mandatory minimum sentences in a future case as an adult. (H.1688/S.959)
  • Expand access to expungement of juvenile and young adult records (H.1451/S.936)
