Please take five minutes this week to make a huge impact for our farmers and the climate crisis. Every five years, Congress passes the federal Farm Bill. The 2018 Farm Bill expired on September 30, 2023 and the new Farm Bill 2023 has not been passed by Congress. Funding for the current programs has been extended through December 31. (It is not clear whether the Farm Bill will reach the floor and be passed by either/both houses before the December 31 deadline.) Efforts are underway to decrease this funding and/or to divert it toward increasing crop subsidies and insurance for corn and soy.
Now is the time to take action. Farmers need this funding to help them make the transition to farming methods that will increase resiliency and reduce carbon emissions. Please contact our Massachusetts Congressional delegation this week and urge them to protect climate-smart agriculture and conservation technical assistance via our Action Alert here.
