LWVMA Backs EPA Clean Power Plan

LWVMA has submitted comments to the Environmental Protection Administration supporting EPA’s proposed Clean Power Plan to reduce carbon pollution from existing power plants.  LWVMA joined LWVUS in urging the EPA to strengthen its proposal, arguing that renewable energy generation is already exceeding the assumptions in the plan.

The LWVMA comments, drafted by Launa Zimmaro, Legislation Specialist for the environment, pointed out that, as a coastal state, Massachusetts is particularly vulnerable to the changes in sea level occurring because of climate change, in addition to the other hazards from power plant carbon emissions.
