Negro Election Day – 283rd Year Celebration – July 15 in Salem

Thanks to the efforts of Salem United, Inc., Negro Election Day is now a Massachusetts state holiday. Negro Election Day recognizes the first Black voting system in the United States which originated in 1741 and has been celebrated in Salem since 1880.

All League members are invited to join LWV Salem to walk in the celebration parade and enjoy a day of events commemorating Negro Election Day and its significance to American History.

We’ll gather alongside Salem Harbor and Pickering Wharf Marina, 27 Congress Street, Salem, at 11:30am to walk in the parade. It’s festive…it’s fun… it’s a celebration!
