The Leadership Giving Council Internship Program

The Leadership Giving Council Internship Program started in Summer 2023. The Program represents a new chapter in the League’s ongoing commitment to education, equity, empowerment and paves a pathway for diverse voices to enter public service. Let’s Lead the Way! Our goal is to support TWO Interns annually for $10,000 ensuring LWVMA has both a summer and fall Intern.  We invite you to sponsor an intern today, by making a donation here.

Our Interns

Lily (Summers '25 & '26)

I am so grateful to have been back with LWVMA for a second summer internship! The LWVMA team and community are truly unmatched in their support, encouragement, and passion for civic engagement and voter empowerment. I’ve learned so much in both my Marketing & Social Media Intern and Senior Communications Intern roles, and the skills I’ve gained will carry into so many different industries. This summer, I worked on VOTE411- reaching out to candidates, inputting information, and creating content to promote the VOTE411 platform to voters! Through this work, I saw firsthand the impact nonprofits like LWVMA have on local and state elections. What made this internship especially meaningful was the opportunity to take initiative, build new strategies, and take real ownership of my projects. I’m incredibly proud of what I accomplished this summer, and none of it would have been possible without the support of the Leadership Giving Council!

Jia (Summer '26)

My time interning at LWVMA as the Outreach & Engagement Intern has been a productive, fun, and educational experience. Thank you all for giving me the opportunity to be part of such a hard-working team, and for helping me sharpen skills I’ll carry into every part of my professional and personal life. Most of my projects centered on contacting organizations around Boston to distribute VOTE411 flyers, tracking candidate forums, and building materials for local Leagues ahead of election season like an interactive voting plan handout. One project I especially loved was improving local League websites to expand their reach and accessibility: I audited all 44 local League websites and put together a toolkit of tips and tricks for improving website engagement.

I now feel more confident navigating election cycles, staying on top of current events, and knowing what I can do to uphold civil liberties in my community. I’m grateful for how many fun moments this internship gave me, from staff meetings to sitting in on LWVMA’s mail-in voting hearing at the courthouse. This internship made for a memorable summer, and one I’ve loved telling my friends and family about. Thank you again for having me as part of LWVMA this summer!

Tiia (Summer '24)

I worked at the League in the summer of 2024, and this internship opportunity exposed me to the many avenues available to join governmental or non-profit work. Through working on the VOTE411 resource, I learned more about political races and functions of local governmental roles that I had never previously considered. My work schedule and location was flexible, and I was able to be creative while completing my job assignments. I had a great time at the League[…] I gained a new community at the League through completing my internship!

Jenny (Summer '24)

During my internship at LWVMA, I had the opportunity to design and implement a social media marketing strategy to promote civic engagement and voter education. I created a content calendar tailored to key dates in Massachusetts elections, designed graphics that highlighted local events and issues, and contributed to newsletters that connected with our LWVMA members. I especially enjoyed the experience because it allowed me to take initiative, suggest new strategies, and truly take ownership of my work. While I’ve always believed in the importance of civic engagement, I wasn’t always sure how to turn that belief into meaningful action in my own community. Through my work with LWVMA, I saw firsthand the tangible impact of local elections and grassroots organizing. It was a powerful reminder that change truly starts at the local level. If you’re looking to make a meaningful impact where it counts most, I recommend interning at LWVMA!
