More Legislative Wins
Wonderful news: Three LWVMA-supported bills passed as part of the Mass Leads Act, also known as the economic development bill, that Governor Healey signed November 20. An Act supporting parents running for public office makes childcare an allowed use of funds raised by a candidate’s campaign. Vital regional public health supports are included via An Act relative to accelerating improvements to the local and regional public health system to address disparities in the delivery of public health services (SAPHE 2.0). Voters deserve access to true and complete information about elections and the candidates seeking their votes, and we applaud the inclusion of An Act relative to deceptive and fraudulent deepfakes in election communications that would restrict creation of a realistic but false image, audio or video depicting a candidate or political party within 90 days of an election.
Additionally, Governor Healey signed An Act promoting a clean energy grid, advancing equity, and protecting ratepayers into law. This major climate and energy omnibus bill reforms permitting and siting for clean energy sources.
